Breaking Free: How Transactional Analysis Helped Me Reclaim My Story

For much of my life, I carried a narrative I didn’t fully realize I was living—a story shaped by expectations, early conditioning, and subconscious beliefs. It was a script passed down through experiences, unknowingly ingrained in the choices I made, the relationships I nurtured, and the way I viewed myself.

Then, Transactional Analysis (TA) entered my life—not as another theory, but as a transformational lens, a key that unlocked buried truths, and ultimately, a pathway to freedom.

The Script That Kept Me Small

As a child and teenager, I lived with a script that echoed through every moment of my life: ✔ I’m not good enough.I’ll always be trailing behind others. No matter how hard I try, I will never truly succeed.

Whether it was academics, sports, or personal achievements, I carried the weight of comparison—always trying, never succeeding, always feeling like I was playing catch-up with the world around me.

This belief wasn’t just a passing thought; it became an internal truth I had bound myself to. It shaped my confidence, my decisions, and the way I navigated opportunities—or rather, avoided them.

A Door Opens: My First Step Toward Change

Then, Dr. Jessica Leong opened a door I never thought I would walk through. She offered me an opportunity to further my studies at the Executive Counselling and Training Academy (ECTA)—an offer that carried both excitement and fear.

Was I capable? Could I succeed? Would I once again fall short?

Despite the doubts, I took the leap. And in doing so, I shattered the very labels and chains that had confined me for so long.
Completing my Master’s in Professional Counselling was more than an academic achievement—it was proof. Proof that the stories I had believed about myself for decades were not absolute truths. Proof that I was capable, resilient, and worthy.

The Breakthrough: Exploring My True Potential

With that affirmation, something inside me changed. I no longer accepted the limitations I had placed on myself. I reviewed my thoughts about who I was, what I could accomplish, and where I wanted to go.

I saw that the scripts I had carried for years were not my destiny—they were simply narratives I had unknowingly followed. And just as I had accepted them in the past, I had the power to rewrite them for the future.

I began to explore my capabilities, challenge my self-perception, and embrace new opportunities that once seemed unreachable.

TA helped me shift from “I’m not OK” to “I’m OK.”

TA allowed me to step beyond comparison and into self-acceptance.

TA gave me the awareness to break free—not just for myself, but to help others do the same.

Living Fully & Guiding Others Toward Change

Today, in this vibrant chapter of life, I stand fully in my story—not dictated by the past, but shaped by the awareness and transformation TA has gifted me.

✔ As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I help clients rewrite their own narratives, showing them that limitations are often self-imposed, not inherent truths.

✔ As a mentor, I guide individuals—whether youth-at-risk or professionals—to see beyond the labels society has placed upon them.

✔ As a lifelong learner, I continue to explore, challenge, and expand my understanding—proving to myself that growth is not limited by age, circumstance, or past experiences.

An Invitation to Transformation

These reflections are not just my own—they are meant to inspire and ignite curiosity in those who read them.
If you are a counsellor, therapist, HR professional, leader, or anyone looking to deepen human connection, I encourage you to explore Transactional Analysis.

TA is a powerful tool—not just for understanding yourself, but for empowering those around you: ✔ Your clients, helping them break free from limiting beliefs. ✔ Your colleagues, fostering deeper communication and collaboration. ✔ Your family, strengthening relationships and healing past wounds. ✔ Your SELF, giving you the awareness and agency to create real change.
Growth is possible. Transformation is within reach. And TA might just be the key that opens the next door for you—just as it did for me.
