Life is a constant interplay between where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. Often, we look back at our past with nostalgia or regret, live in the present with uncertainty, and approach the future with anticipation—or fear. But through Transactional Analysis (TA), I’ve come to see these stages not as disconnected chapters, but as an interwoven narrative, each influencing the next.
In this season of wisdom and renewal, standing on the bridge between reflection and reinvention, I see my journey through TA as a profound guide—helping me to not just look back, but to understand, not just move forward, but to embrace.
The Past: Understanding My Life Script
For much of my early life, I unknowingly followed a script—a subconscious storyline shaped by childhood experiences, parental influences, and societal expectations. TA taught me that these scripts are often inherited, written long before we have the awareness to question them.
Mine was clear: ✔ Be responsible, always. ✔ Seek achievement to prove worth. ✔ Do not ask for too much—just accept what is given.
This script dictated how I approached my career, relationships, even self-perception. It wasn’t until Dr. Jessica Leong introduced me to TA that I truly understood how these embedded narratives shaped my choices. TA gave me the language and awareness to not just recognize, but to rewrite the parts that no longer served me.
The Present: Awakening to Possibilities
Awareness is the first step—but transformation happens in the present.
As I stepped into semi-retirement, I felt the lingering grip of past conditioning. A part of me questioned, “Without work, who am I?” Another part whispered, “You must stay productive, you cannot slow down.”
But TA helped me sit with these voices—not push them away, but truly hear them. It helped me distinguish between the Parent, Adult, and Child ego states, understanding which part of me was reacting out of habit versus intentional choice.
Through TA principles, I gave myself permission to: ✔ Redefine purpose outside of career titles. ✔ Embrace learning, even in areas I once avoided (like digital technology). ✔ Find fulfillment in new spaces, whether in teaching, mentoring, or deep personal reflection.
More than anything, TA allowed me to step beyond the limiting belief that change must happen when we are young. Growth is lifelong. Transformation is timeless.
The Future: Walking Forward with Awareness & Hope
Now, as I look ahead, I no longer feel weighed down by scripts I never consciously chose. Instead, I move forward with intention, with clarity, with joy.
✔ I continue learning—because curiosity knows no age. ✔ I embrace my role as a mentor—helping others rewrite their own narratives through TA. ✔ I see the future not as uncertain, but as open—a canvas, rather than a predetermined path.
TA has gifted me with the realization that we are never bound by the past, only guided by it. We are never lost in the present—only evolving within it. And our future is never pre-written—it is ours to shape.
In this vibrant chapter of life, I walk forward not just with experience, but with awareness, hope, and the readiness to embrace all that lies ahead.
